Games for children's birthday party

Children's birthday hats
Since McDonald's and Co have been around to celebrate a child's birthday, traditional children's birthday games have been forgotten by many families. Here we would like to recall some of them, all of which were tried and loved in our own childhood days, as they bring a lot of fun and action.

Pot banging

You need a pot, cooking spoons and a scarf to blindfold for this game. One child is chosen to start. He or she is blindfolded with the scarf and meanwhile another child hides the pot somewhere in the room. A small prize is placed underneath, this can be a sweet or a smaller gift.

Now the cooking spoon is put into the child's hand, it is turned around itself a few times so that it loses its orientation in the room a little and now it can drop to its knees and start searching.

With the spoon, it feels around and hits objects that could be the pot until it finds it. If this takes a long time, the other children can help by calling out "warm" or "cold".

You can repeat the game with all the children, because everyone will want to have a turn.

Chocolate competition

This is one of my all-time favourite games because it is a quick game where everyone can participate together and it leads to very funny situations.

You need a bar of chocolate wrapped thickly in newspaper, gloves, scarf, hat, also a knife, fork and a cube.

The dice are rolled in turn and the child who gets a six first gets to put on the gloves, scarf and hat in no time at all and start using a knife and fork to open the chocolate that has been placed in the centre of the table.

Meanwhile, all the other children continue to roll the dice and as soon as another one of them has rolled a six, the first child has to take everything off again so that the next child with a six can put it on to continue working on the chocolate.

This is how it goes around until the chocolate has been eaten, you always have to use a knife and fork for this and have put on all your clothes beforehand.

Sometimes it's not so easy to get hold of a piece of chocolate, because if the six comes frequently, you have to pass on before you know it.

Blowing cotton wool

For this game you only need two large cotton wools and two balloons for the two players. The cotton wools are placed on a starting line and the balloons are given to each of the two players. At a command, the two opponents now start to blow up their balloon and then move the cotton wool forward with the outflowing air. The first person to blow their cotton balloon through the finish line wins. However, you often quickly run out of air from laughing so hard. The distance to be covered depends on the local conditions.

Negro kissing contest

To remain politically correct, the negro kiss should no longer be called a negro kiss, but a foam or chocolate kiss. However, since this game has always been called by the other term, I have mentioned it here.

You need as many foam kisses as there are players. Everyone places their kiss in front of them and folds their arms behind their back. At a command, all the children start to eat their kiss without adding their hands, which is not so easy because they are usually bigger than the little mouths. The first one to eat it all, including the wafer, is the winner. It is advisable to have a camera ready for this game, because the chocolate kisses like to leave funny marks on the face.

Journey to Jerusalem

This game requires chairs that are placed in two rows with the backs of the chairs facing each other and music that can be switched on and off. A game leader takes over this task. The number of chairs depends on the number of players, one chair less is placed in each row.

When the music starts, all the children run around the chairs until the music suddenly stops and everyone has to sit down on a chair as quickly as possible. The child who has not found a chair is eliminated. The game leader may have to decide who was faster if two had chosen the same chair.

Now a chair is taken away and the next round starts again with music. You play until the last two opponents run for the very last chair and only one gets the seat at the end - the winner!
