Mental stimulation, this is how you stimulate your thinking

A stimulated and fulfilled mind can enrich your life and even make you physically healthier. Brain activity should be encouraged on a daily basis so that thinking reaches higher capacities. Critical thinking and memory can be improved in various ways. Review your lifestyle and habits to find ways to stimulate thinking.

Probably the most critical aspect of stimulating brain activity is sufficient and restful sleep. If the brain is given the opportunity to regenerate for a whole night, it functions better during waking hours. The ideal sleeping time should be around eight hours in a row on average. If you go to bed late and sleep longer in the morning, you will not be able to think fully. Sleep between 11 pm and 7 am is ideal. If you have the opportunity to rest briefly in the afternoon, you should do so, but for no longer than 15 minutes, otherwise you may feel sluggish afterwards.

To achieve the best results, not only the mind but also the body needs to be trained. Sufficient exercise and sport is highly recommended for this, as physical activity stimulates the flow of oxygen to the brain. In addition, exercise and maintaining an ideal weight helps to prevent chronic diseases that cause memory loss (diabetes). However, rigorous training does not always lead to good results. It is better to find sporting hobbies and exercise opportunities that are fun. Less athletic people can stimulate the flow of oxygen to the brain through relaxing activities such as swimming or walking.

If your mind is fit and receptive thanks to sufficient sleep and exercise, you can concentrate on mental stimulation. Brain teasers of all kinds are good for this. You can also stimulate your mental abilities by introducing new things into your life. Try new, exotic foods from time to time, take a new route to work or go on trips and day trips to unknown cities and countries. Dull routine without new input stunts the mind. New leisure activities such as learning to play a musical instrument, reading new books or artistic activities are also excellent ways to stimulate the mind.

A healthy diet is the icing on the cake when it comes to stimulating mental abilities. Hydrogenated fats, which are usually found in snacks, can actually slow down brain activity. Instead, consume unsaturated fatty acids in the form of olive oil, fish and nuts. Fresh fruit and vegetables protect the body from free radicals. Alcohol consumption should be kept to a minimum.
