Tips for the care and storage of jackets and coats

Down jacket
Jackets and coats need to be properly cared for and stored so that they stay in shape for a long time or are protected from the weather. Here are a few tips on how to care for jackets and coats and store them in summer so that they don't get ruined.

1. down jackets can be flattened after washing and therefore lose a large part of their thermal insulation. Simply add a tennis ball or trainers to the wash. During the summer, down jackets are best stored hanging upside down.

2. rain jackets and mackintoshes can lose their water-repellent properties over time. The rain jacket can be made water-repellent again by spraying it with a special water-repellent spray. This way the rain jacket can last for years to come.

3. leather jackets need special care to keep their shape and suppleness. Dust, dirt, rain and body oils quickly make the leather look old. First wipe the leather with a damp cloth, then rub in leather grease. This will restore the leather to its former lustre and keep it supple. During the summer, leather goods should be hung up on a sturdy hanger to keep them in shape. Store in a cool place out of direct sunlight. Do not wrap leather goods in plastic, as leather needs to breathe.

4. jackets made from synthetic fabrics should be hung up to air dry after washing. Direct sunlight during drying can damage the fabric.

5. regularly check jackets and coats for missing buttons or detached Velcro fasteners and sew them on again if necessary.
