You can use citrus peel to light a fire super quickly in a barbecue or charcoal oven.

 

You don't need to throw away the peel of oranges and lemons. Save them and dry them well in the air. Once all the moisture has been removed, citrus peel is particularly suitable for lighting fires. They start a fire even faster than newspaper and the oils contained in the peel keep the peel glowing for longer.

They also give off their fruity citrus flavour and produce less tar oil than conventional firelighters or newspaper.

Dried apple peel is also suitable as a firelighter, but it burns for less time than citrus fruit.
