Real jeans fanatics claim that washing a pair of jeans ruins the cool fit of the trousers. Even washing in cold water or dry cleaning will slightly alter the jeans and never make them fit as perfectly as they did on the first day, they say.

When the jeans start to feel dirty and worn, fold them neatly and put them in a cloth bag. The cloth bag is put in the freezer at -18 degrees and stays there for a week. The theory behind this is that the low temperatures in the freezer will kill any bacteria on the fabric, which is ultimately why we want to wash jeans in the first place. The bacteria that get into the fabric through the body cause the musty smell of often worn clothes. If you take the jeans out of the freezer again after a week, they feel fresh and crisp again like the first day and fit perfectly, because no wash cycle has warped the fabric. The bad smell has also disappeared.

Logically, freezing jeans does not remove stains, so it is really only suitable for jeans that are not full of stains. Work clothes made of jeans should perhaps be put in the washing machine.
