Who hasn't experienced the feeling of hitting your thumb with a hammer when hammering in a nail? No matter how careful you are, the hammer slips off the nail head and you injure your fingers.

 

 

There's a simple trick you can use to avoid injuring your fingers in future. Grip the nail with a clothes peg, preferably made of wood, just below the nail head. You can use the clothes peg to hold the nail in position while your thumb is out of reach of the hammer.
