The perfect garden party can be disturbed by uninvited guests such as mosquitoes, flies and wasps. What is the best way to keep insects away in the garden?

 

Insect lamp. A UV lamp attracts flying insects and kills them. Place the lamp a little away from the dining table and leave it switched on.

 

Garlic spray. Furniture can be rubbed with garlic spray or garlic juice before the party, which repels insects.

 

Candles. Place candles or torches in the garden and around the table. Smoke in general keeps insects away. The flames naturally add to the cosy atmosphere.

 

Fine-mesh sieve. You can cover the dishes with fine-mesh sieves so that flies and other insects cannot get at the food.

 

Mosquito netting. You can cover the party tent with mosquito nets in front of the entrances so that the fresh air gets in but not the annoying insects. Ikea has a stand-up mosquito net (Karlsö €19.99) that you can wash in the washing machine.

 

Well-mown lawn. Tall grass and standing water attract mosquitoes. So keep the lawn in the garden nice and short and don't get it wet before the garden party.
