Apples are healthy, delicious and extremely versatile. And not just in food, but also in the home. Here are three alternative ways to use apples.
1. apples for oversalted soup. If you have accidentally added a little too much salt to the soup, it helps to boil a few fresh apple slices with it for ten minutes. Then remove the apple slices. The apples absorb excess salt and make the soup edible.
2. apples for faster ripening. Green tomatoes ripen more quickly if you store them together with a ripe apple in a paper bag for one to two days.
3. apples to keep fresh. If you store an opened cake, it can dry out quickly and lose flavour. This happens less quickly if you wrap it together with half an apple, which keeps it fresh for much longer.
