How to treat acute diarrhoea

Diarrhoea is usually caused by bacteria. These bacteria are often ingested through contaminated food or are associated with viral infections.

Diarrhoea is the body's self-cleansing reaction in which it tries to flush out the bacteria as quickly as possible. Those affected can support the body with natural remedies.

This can be done to treat diarrhoea:

Drink a lot. The body loses large amounts of fluid and therefore also minerals, which must be replaced. Isotonic drinks are the best way to restore the electrolyte balance.

Grated apple. Apples contain the fluid-binding protein pectin, which is why apples, which are most effective when grated, have been used as an effective household remedy for diarrhoea since grandmother's time.

Coal. Medicated charcoal (available in pharmacies) is made from plant-based raw materials and binds toxins and fluids.

Healing clay. Healing clay also has toxin-absorbing properties.

Black tea. Black tea, preferably sweetened, contains tannins that have a calming effect on the intestines

Uzara. Uzara is an African root that contains tannins and not only has a calming but also antispasmodic effect. Uzara is available in pharmacies as juice, drops or lozenges.

Yeast. Yeast stabilises the intestinal flora. Yeast tablets or yeast cultures contained in probiotic yoghurts are effective against diarrhoea.
