Acute and chronic pain is usually relieved with medication. However, this means that the active ingredient cannot act directly in the pain centre, but has to make a diversion through the bloodstream. As a result, higher doses of the painkiller must be taken than is necessary for the actual pain.

Mesotherapy works directly at the site of pain and therefore allows a much lower dosage. Painkillers are injected directly under the skin at the site of the pain. 

However, like all treatment methods, mesotherapy is not without possible side effects.

Advantages of mesotherapy against pain

Lower dosage of painkillers, thus less risk to the liver and kidneys.

The treatment is virtually painless.

Relatively rare treatment sessions.

Disadvantages of mesotherapy

Possible side effects of the injection: burning, redness and swelling of the affected area. However, these disappear again within 2 to 3 days.

Mesotherapy is not covered by health insurance.

Allergic reactions to the active substance are possible.
