For healthy teeth and gums, we need vitamins and minerals to strengthen the teeth and keep the gums healthy. The oral flora needs the right pH value to protect against bacteria.
Calcium and magnesium as well as vitamin D protect the teeth from damage. To get the nutrients you need, your diet should include plenty of green leafy vegetables, tofu, wholegrains, nuts and seeds.
Healthy teeth start with a healthy mouth, because the bacteria in the mouth cause tooth decay. Refined sugar and simple carbohydrates should be kept to a minimum. Chewy sweets, crisps and all stimulants that stick to and between the teeth when chewing are particularly bad for teeth.
Carbonated drinks should be avoided because they contain harmful acid that removes minerals from the teeth.
Small meals in between meals are important to ensure you have enough energy, but there should be no more than two snacks between meals. It is better to eat a little more at a time and then rinse your mouth with water or chew a dental chewing gum.
