There is not yet enough scientific research into the reasons for this, but thorough and extensive studies have shown that coffee can do much more than just wake you up.

Three cups of coffee a day reduce the risk of skin cancer in women by 20%.

Six cups of coffee reduces the risk of prostate cancer in men by 60%. At least one cup of coffee a day reduces the risk of stroke by 25%.

Drinking at least two cups of coffee makes you less prone to depression.

Coffee is now also known to reduce the risk of diabetes 2, gallstones, Parkinson's disease, cirrhosis and bowel, liver and breast cancer.

Coffee is healthiest when it is drunk black or with just a little milk to minimise calorie intake. Decaffeinated coffee has fewer health benefits, so it is better to drink "normal" coffee. At least two cups and no more than four cups of coffee a day are recommended.

The rich content of antioxidants appears to be responsible for the protective effect of coffee. According to a Norwegian study, one cup of coffee contains more antioxidants than the same amount of blueberry juice, raspberry juice or pineapple juice.

Coffee not only helps the body, but is also good for the mind. If you haven't slept enough and are nervous as a result, inhaling the aroma of coffee often makes you calm and relaxed.

To keep coffee healthy, it should preferably not be drunk with high-calorie cream. Consumption should not exceed a maximum of four cups, otherwise blood pressure can increase. To be on the safe side, pregnant women should avoid coffee to reduce the risk of miscarriage.

If you have problems with cholesterol, you should drink filter coffee or instant coffee. Unfiltered coffee contains more cafestol, a substance that increases cholesterol levels.
