3 reasons against the consumption of pork

Pork is the cause of many debates. While many people do not want to give up eating bacon or knuckle of pork, others plead that pork is not only unhealthy for the body, but also harmful to the environment. Here are the most important reasons why one should at least severely limit the consumption of pork.

1. pork puts on fat because it is full of cholesterol and saturated fatty acids. Excessive consumption results in obesity and an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, asthma, Alzheimer's and impotence.

2. a pig farm with 500 animals produces about the same amount of faeces and urine as a city with 50,000 inhabitants. If these pollutants get into our waters, they kill fish and plants. To prevent water pollution, the waste products from pig farms are now liquefied and sprayed into the air. From there, they are dispersed by the wind and inhaled by people in the neighbourhood.

3. pigs are reared in conditions of extreme lack of space, poor ventilation and poor hygiene. It is estimated that around 70 per cent of the animals suffer from lung disease when they are slaughtered. To keep the animals alive longer and promote faster growth, they are regularly given antibiotics, the same antibiotics that humans are given to treat various diseases. The antibiotics are found in the meat of the pigs that we consume, so that our bodies develop a resistance to these antibiotics in the long term. As a result, the antibiotics are completely ineffective against diseases caused by bacteria.

If you do not want to give up pork completely, you should not consume more than 90g twice a week.
