Slugs are snails that have lost their shells in the course of evolution. Slugs can be found in every garden, they feed on plants and can become a nuisance for the hobby gardener.

 

Nudibranchs are hermaphrodites, i.e. they have two sexes. Each nudibranch has both male and female reproductive organs. They can reproduce either by mating with other snails or by fertilising themselves, which means that only one snail is needed to reproduce.

 

Nudibranchs lay their eggs in permanently damp places, such as under stones or rotting wood. The eggs are tiny yellowish or greenish balls. During the day, nudibranchs usually remain hidden. They emerge from their hiding place in the dark and go in search of food.
