Older people, people with disabilities or children may have difficulty playing a musical instrument fluently and consistently. However, those who have unsteady or shaky hands can still make music. Which musical instruments are suitable for people with trembling hands?

String instruments such as violin, cello or bass are not recommended in most cases for trembling hands, because these instruments require a high degree of accuracy and fluid, even playing. The same applies to many wind instruments such as the flute and clarinet, because here it is precisely the steady placement of the fingers that is important. Depending on the strength of the tremor, however, it can sometimes be concealed by the swinging movements with a bloc or alto flute.

Among the most suitable musical instruments for unsteady hands are undoubtedly percussion or persussion instruments. Trembling hands can be brought into a rhythm where accurate hand position is not important. Very positive are drums, jingles, glockenspiel or maracas.

Even though string instruments are not recommended, a person with trembling hands can still play rhythm guitar well. Classical guitar is usually too difficult because it involves plucking individual notes on the strings, where accuracy is important. Guitar chords, however, can be played well with unsteady hands.
