Blackboard

Blackboards are particularly nice for children, as they can draw on them with coloured chalk to their heart's content and then easily wipe them clean afterwards. Smooth surfaces such as the inside of a child's bedroom door are ideal for a chalkboard. Other options are old picture frames, cupboard doors or simply a wooden board. The colour for the background of a blackboard is fairly easy to make yourself.

Mix about 200ml of dark blue acrylic craft paint with a tablespoon of putty until the mixture is smooth and lump-free. Clean the desired surface and paint it with the colour, preferably using a paint roller to make it smoother. Allow to dry completely.

After drying, small irregularities can be sanded off with fine sandpaper.

You can draw on the surface with coloured chalk and then wipe the board clean again with a sponge.

Tip: Particularly brave children can paint an entire wall of their nursery with blackboard chalk!
