A fun game for children aged 2 and over and any number of players. Make sure the cat doesn't catch your mouse!
You need a white plastic cup, one wine bottle cork per player, some different coloured wool, coloured paper, felt-tip pens, glue, scissors and a dice.
You will need the plastic cup for the cat. Two paper ears are glued to the closed end of the cup, eyes and whiskers can be glued or painted further down on the wide end of the cup.
The corks are the mice. For each mouse tail, tie a 50cm length of woollen thread to the cork, preferably a different colour for each player. Eyes, ears and whiskers can be cut out of paper and glued to the front of the corks.
Course of the game
The players sit in a circle. Each child gets a mouse, one child gets the cat and the dice. The mice stand close together in the centre and are held by their tails by the respective player.
The cat player throws the dice. If he rolls a 1 or a 6, he must try to catch the mice by putting the cup over the corks. If you don't pull your mouse away quickly enough by the tail, you are caught and swap places with the cat.
