The education of hypersensitive children

hypersensitive children

Every 5th child can be categorised as hypersensitive. A hypersensitive child perceives their environment more clearly and in greater detail than average. This sensitivity often poses a challenge for parents, as all too quickly a tiny factor can lead to an emotional outburst.

In order to successfully deal with a hypersensitive child, it is important to recognise the triggers of the emotional outbursts so that they can be avoided as far as possible. Instead, parents must try to find and encourage triggers for positive reactions.

Sensitive children need time alone. Although they enjoy playing with other children, they are occasionally seen secluded. This is not antisocial behaviour, but simply means that they have been overwhelmed by the external impressions, which they feel more strongly than others, and need to recover for a while. So they should be left alone, after their time out they will come back on their own.

Many hypersensitive children are afraid of large crowds and places with a lot of bright light and noise. If possible, you should therefore avoid these places if you can see that your child reacts negatively to them. Many activities can also be done at quieter times when there are fewer people around.
In contrast to crowded department stores, nature offers a place of peace and quiet. In the great outdoors, children can be adventurous and explore the wonders of nature. Their keen senses make them appreciate the beauty of nature all the more and they will love a trip to the countryside.

Creativity and play come first. It is through expressing their creative side that sensitive children can find their true talent, because there is often an artist inside. They need to be given the opportunity to find their preferences and offered different forms of creativity. Whatever they enjoy should be encouraged. Their creative talent also gives them a place to relax and unwind in the event of an emotional overreaction.

As sensitive children are more aware of their environment, the opinions of others are crucial for them. They react strongly to who spends a lot of time with them. The more time they spend playing with their carers, the more their inner strength can grow.

Hypersensitive children react particularly negatively to orders and reprimands. To make progress with them, you need to give them the feeling that they are acting voluntarily. Instead of sending them to bed at bedtime against their will, you should give them the choice to do it themselves if they want to get their reward. So if they manage to get ready for bed in 15 minutes, they can read in bed for a while longer.

Children's emotional lives are enormously rich. They first have to learn to manage their feelings. Parents can help them to reduce the overwhelming feelings in a healthy way and promote inner strength. They need to be taught to be happy, so to speak, and to live out and enjoy moments of positive feelings.
In this way, children can learn to see their hypersensitivity as a gift.
