Most children like to go camping, they like the smell of the campfire, the cosy tent and the closeness to nature. But even very independent children occasionally need more play and entertainment when camping. There are many things to be found in nature that children can use to make crafts that are not only fun but also educational. Camping is a family activity that children simply enjoy more when they can be creative.

Stone Paperweight

For this activity, the adults need to bring some acrylic paints, brushes and water cups. The children find a stone of their choice that is big enough to paint, but not too big that they can no longer carry it. The stones must be thoroughly washed and dried. Afterwards, the children can paint them as they wish and take them home as souvenirs. 

Bracelet

For this, you should bring a set of glass beads for making bracelets and some yarn. Cut a piece of yarn for each child and tie a knot in one end so that the beads do not fall out. The children can string the coloured beads on the string as they wish. Then tie the ends of the string together and the children have a nice souvenir of their camping holiday.

Fußpure

In nature you can find many animal tracks; footprints in the sand of birds, deer or rabbits. The task is to find these footprints and make an impression of them. To do this, take a bag of plaster, some water, a few ice cream sticks and paper cups. An adult takes the children on a walk through nature where they are supposed to look for animal tracks. When they have found them, you mix plaster powder and water into a paste and pour it onto the print. You wait until the plaster has dried and hardened and take the plaster cast away. The children can have a competition to see who can find the most and best prints. Back at the campsite, they can try to find out which animal their prints came from.

God's eye

For the next activity, the children need to collect some twigs and bring yarn and scissors. Take two twigs of the same length and tie them together to form a cross. Then start wrapping the twigs with yarn from the centre of the cross outwards. It is best to use coloured yarn for this. Wrap the yarn around the twigs until the desired thickness is reached, knot the end and cut it off.
