A widespread rumour says that chocolate contains bovine blood. Some say that the blood is used as a colouring agent for a deep brown colour.

 

Another opinion is that blood occasionally comes out of the udder when cows are milked. This milk mixed with blood is not used for other milk processing and is therefore used in chocolate production, as the colouring is not noticeable there.

The idea that chocolate is mixed with "disgusting" blood is a horror for many chocolate lovers. Non-vegetarians also like to tease vegetarians by saying that they are not real vegetarians if they eat chocolate.

It is interesting that the thought of eating chocolate containing blood is perceived as disgusting, while no one thinks about the blood content of a steak.

The fact is that strict food industry regulations prohibit the use of blood impurities in milk, even in chocolate production. The use of milk containing blood is prohibited by law. So the all-clear for all those who like to eat chocolate: chocolate contains no bovine, porcine or any other blood.
