Originally, Marmite comes from England and has been produced there since the beginning of the 20th century. In the meantime, there is also a variant that is produced in New Zealand, but still retains the name Marmite.

In Australia, people swear by Vegemite, a related product to Marmite. Since Marmite is made from yeast extract, it is rich in B vitamins. It is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

 

In this country, Marmite is largely unknown, the taste takes some getting used to. With Marmite, it is very important to use it correctly in order to appreciate the taste.

 

Marmite should be eaten on fresh toast. First spread some butter or margarine on the bread while it is still warm. Then spread the Marmite very thinly. As the flavour is very intense, you should never spread it too thickly.
