Many cosmetic products contain harsh chemicals and preservatives that damage the skin in the long term. Natural, alternative cosmetic products are made without the use of these chemicals. What are the harmful ingredients in cosmetic products?

 

Lead
The use of lead has long been banned in other products such as paints and pencils. For cosmetic products, however, there are no restrictions. Many lipsticks, even expensive branded products, can contain lead, which can lead to lead poisoning, brain damage and cancer. Natural lipsticks are made from strawberries and do not contain lead.

Phthalates
Nail polish, which makes nails particularly shiny, may contain dibutyl phthalate, a toxic substance that can attack the central nervous system. Chemical-free, organic nail polish is available for nails. For a special shine, rub olive oil into the painted nails.
Diethyl phthalates can be found in some perfumes. Enchanting fragrances can also be created with essential oils.

Formaldehyde
Many hair care products still contain formaldehyde, a potentially carcinogenic substance, especially those that straighten frizzy hair. Organic, water-based hair care products are available to smooth frizz.

Propylene glycol
A commonly used additive in moisturisers, toothpaste, soap, brake fluid and antifreeze. Propylene glycol can cause skin irritation and nausea.

Parabens
Almost all cosmetic products that are not labelled as organic contain parabens. Parabens are preservatives that are suspected of causing breast cancer.
