Strategies against split ends

beautiful hair

Split ends make the hair look unattractive overall. The ends are the oldest parts of the hair and are therefore more sensitive. If the cuticle layer of the ends of the hair is completely destroyed, the hair splits lengthways, fibres or breaks off. Without hair treatment, the hair continues to split at the ends, making the whole head look unhealthy.

Split ends are caused by colouring the hair, hairspray, rough brushing, blow-drying with hot air, bathing in chlorinated and salt water and sun exposure.
The right hair care can eliminate and prevent split ends.

The ends of the hair should be cut at regular intervals with a good pair of scissors. Blunt scissors can damage the hair structure when cutting and exacerbate split ends.
The hair should be washed with a mild shampoo and then moisturised with a conditioner. A hair tip treatment is recommended once or twice a week, where hair oil is massaged into the tips and left to work in for 10 minutes under a warm towel.
Hair that is already very damaged should not be further stressed by blow-drying and excessive styling. Gels, hairspray and mousse remove important moisture from the hair and it loses its suppleness. When styling, care should be taken to ensure that the hair does not get too much friction, for example from rough hair ties. When doing sports, it is best to use soft hair elastics and tie your hair into a bun.
Bicycle and motorbike helmets put a strain on the hair if the helmet is frequently put on and taken off. If you are prone to split ends, you can put a bandana over your hair and pull the helmet over it.

In addition, the hair must also be supplied with sufficient minerals from the inside. You need vitamins and minerals from fresh fruit and vegetables, wholemeal products and dairy products. Smoking cigarettes deprives the body of vitamins and makes hair more brittle.
