Beauty tips for teenagers

Mascara

For adolescent young people, hair care, skin care and make-up are a way of expressing themselves in the time of experimentation and self-discovery. To develop a personal style, teenagers should try out both classic and trendy looks. But for young girls, youthful charm should be emphasised, while adult women are looking for sex appeal.

It's important for teenagers to find a style that suits their age so that they look natural. Teenagers with bright red lips and heavy eye make-up all too easily look like children who have rummaged through their mum's cosmetics cupboard.

Age-appropriate beauty doesn't have to be boring, especially because the young and fresh look of a teenager already ensures natural beauty.

Hair

When trying out different hairstyles, be careful not to damage your hair. If you want to try out a new hair colour, use a gentle tint first. Instead of using a hair-damaging spray, try using accessories. Styling with wash-out hair colour and hair clips also gives you the opportunity to try out a new style every week. Your hobbies and lifestyle should also be taken into account when styling your hair. If you do a lot of sport, you have to wash your hair often and need a haircut that keeps your hair out of the way and a style that you can refresh quickly and easily after sport.

Skin

There are dozens of skincare products out there, making it difficult to find the right one. You should avoid products that contain soap, alcohol and perfume, as these can dry out and damage your young, sensitive skin. Otherwise, you can keep your skin fresh and clean by changing your pillowcase frequently and applying UV protection in the sun.

Make-up

Between the ages of 13 and 15, a young girl should wear minimal make-up. Clear lip gloss and a little mascara are enough. Girls over 16 can start experimenting with cosmetics. But if you use bold eyeshadow and lipstick, do it tastefully and co-ordinate it with your clothes. You shouldn't have kohl-smeared eyes just for school, you can save that for the disco. Only emphasise one of your facial features with make-up, for example your cheeks or eyes, and only use natural shades for the rest of your face. Don't apply your make-up too thickly.
