Adolescent male cats develop their sexuality from the age of 6 to 8 months. Male cats dominate female cats in the sexual act by biting them on the neck. The fold of the cat's neck is also often used by humans to temporarily immobilise the cat. The neck grip releases hormones that immobilise the nerves for the duration of the hold.

From the age of six months, a male cat begins to develop sexual maturity, which also includes neck biting. He trains with his human, so to speak, to get his instinct under control. As the tomcat grows up and matures, this behaviour, which is annoying for humans, disappears. Nevertheless, it makes sense to have the cat neutered at a young age. If he cannot fulfil his sex drive, it is physically painful for him. In addition, it should be prevented that the tomcat, when running around outside, makes cats pregnant.
