If a dog has eaten something poisonous or harmful, a first aid measure is to make the dog vomit in order to get the foreign body, poison or harmful object out of the stomach as quickly as possible.

 

Dogs sniff everywhere and sometimes eat small objects out of curiosity or rat poison that is often hidden in food. Before the poison can take effect or a foreign object blocks the digestive tract, the dog's stomach must be emptied.

 

How to make your dog vomit

It is best to bring the dog into the bathroom, where it has less chance of escaping and where it is easier to clean up. If possible, ask another person for help.

For a small dog, give only one capful of hydrogen peroxide, which is usually about one teaspoon. A larger dog can be given up to two teaspoons. Pour the liquid into a syringe so that it can be quickly injected into the dog's mouth.

It may take up to five minutes for the dog to vomit. Examine the vomit for the foreign body or toxin to make sure it has been vomited out. If not, repeat the process.

Making the dog vomit is a first aid measure and does not replace the veterinarian, but only ensures that harmful objects or substances are removed from the dog's stomach as quickly as possible before they make the dog sick or poison it.
