The oldest dog was Bluey, a shepherd dog in Australia. Towards the end of the 1930s, he was officially named the oldest dog in regional Victoria and lived long enough to earn the world title. Bluey was born on 7 June 1910 and lived to be 29 years, 5 months and 7 days old. In dog years that would be 129 years. He is said to have lived on a diet of kangaroo and emu meat.

 

Other dogs that lived to an extremely old age were Chanel (21), a wire-haired Dachshund, Bramble (27), Jerry (26) and Jip (25). The usual life expectancy of a dog varies from breed to breed and is between 10 and 13 years.
