A goldfish can live for 10 or even 20 years if you look after it well and it lives in the optimum living conditions. There are examples of goldfish that have lived to be 30 years old.

 

In fact, there are two goldfish that lived to be 43 years old, making them the oldest goldfish in the world. Tish and Goldie, the two fish, faded in their later years first to light orange, then to silver.
