The floating market in Pattaya is located on Sukhumvit Road on the way to Bang Saray and Sattahip outside Pattaya. The market can be easily reached by taxi, public transport (bus), charter buses and tuk-tuks. Admission is free, visitors are only asked for voluntary donations.
The so-called "Floating Market" is a cultural heritage of the four regions of Thailand, North, Central Thailand, North-East and South. To represent the four regions of Thailand, the Pattaya Floating Market is divided into four parts. Each of these parts offers a variety of high quality, traditional goods from clothing, toys, souvenirs to food.
More than 110 individual vendors sell hand-carved goods, silk, herbs and medicinal herb products and other local goods.
The Floating Market in Pattaya was only opened in November 2008. Covering an area of 100,000 square metres, it is the largest artificial floating market in the world.
Visitors to the market can walk along the bridges or be rowed past the typical Thai teak buildings on one of the 80 boats available through the network of canals.
There are daily cultural shows at the market, such as classical Thai dance, Thai boxing and water boxing.
Another great experience is the zip line at the Floating Market (see above). You climb the wooden tower and slide directly over the water to another tower and back. The zip line costs 100 baht, a photo, which is given with a wooden frame, costs an additional 150 baht.
A morning at the Floating Market is very interesting for families with children. There are numerous toy stalls for the children to see. The suspension bridge to the zip wire tower is also great fun for children.
