Around the bay near Pattaya there are several smaller islands with beautiful beaches, clear water and all kinds of activities. The offers vary from a simple boat trip to an island to a three-island tour with an entertainment programme. The price depends on the type of boat, the programme or the respective island and, last but not least, your negotiating skills. A simple island tour without entertainment, i.e. travelling by speedboat to an island and returning in the afternoon, can cost from 300 to 400 baht per person. Fully organised island tours cost between 1500 and 2500 baht per person. The programmes include fishing, snorkelling and other water activities as well as lunch and drinks, depending on the provider.
Koh Lan
Koh Lan is about 20 minutes away by speedboat and, at four square kilometres, is the largest of the islands near Pattaya. The island is about 8 kilometres west of Pattaya. There you can see coral reefs from the glass-bottom boat, go snorkelling, diving, surfing, water skiing and parasailing. There are many restaurants serving seafood and fish dishes on the main beaches.
Koh Krok
The small island of Koh Krok only has a surface area of o.o5 square kilometres and is mainly visited to see the coral reefs. Apart from rock formations, there is only one beach, which stretches for about 100 metres on the east side of the island. This is an ideal place for diving.
Koh Sak
Just 600 metres from Koh Lan is Koh Sak, a small island in the shape of a horseshoe. The two beaches, one at the north end and one at the south end, are ideal for swimming and are connected by a path. There is also a coral reef in front of the beach.
Koh Phai archipelago
The Koh Phai islands consist of Koh Phai, the largest, Koh Manvichai, Koh Leom and Koh Klung Badan. This group of small islands is located about 13 kilometres outside of Pattaya and it takes about two hours by tourist boat. The long boat journey means that there is less activity here than on the other islands. There is coral here too, and you can snorkel, fish and swim or simply relax under the palm trees. Koh Phai is currently under the rule of the Royal Navy. Visitors are not allowed to spend the night here.
