Crete, The Minoan Palace
Phaistos is said to have been founded as an ancient Greek city by the mythological king Minos. The palace of Phaistos was built in the late Bronze Age and rediscovered towards the end of the 19th century. The old palace was destroyed twice by earthquakes and rebuilt before a new palace was constructed on the ruins of the original palace.

The Knossos Palace on Crete
The original palace from 1900 BC was destroyed around 1700 BC. The second palace of Knossos, discovered in 1878, consists of a labyrinth of workshops, rooms and courtyards. Knossos is the largest Minoan site in the world.
Delos
The island of Delos has been inhabited since the 3rd millennium BC and is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. According to Greek mythology, the gods Apollo and Artemis were born here. Delos was the most sacred place in ancient Greece.
The old town of Corfu
The ancient charm of the old town enchants visitors with its tiny alleyways, cobbled streets, traditional tavernas and beautiful arcades. Kapodostrou is the town's main thoroughfare.

The Temple of Aphaia, Egina
The temple was built around 480 BC on and partly from the ruins of an earlier temple. The temple rises majestically on the hill above the Agia Marina resort.
The old town of Rhodes
The medieval fortress of the capital of the island of Rhodes lies at the heart of the city. Inside there is a museum that takes visitors through the different eras of history.

Monastery of St John on Patmos
John is said to have written the Book of Revelation on the island of Patmos in 95 AD. John is said to have lived in a cave in ancient Hora, where he perceived apocalyptic visions of Jesus and subsequently wrote the Book of Revelation. The Holy Cave is located near the monastery that was built in honour of John in 1088.
Nea Moni, Hios
One of the best examples of Macedonian Renaissance architecture is Nea Moni, famous for its golden mosaics. The 11th century monastery of Nea Moni is located west of the town of Hios and was built under the Byzantine ruler Constantine IX Monomachos and the ruler Zoe.

Pythagoreio and Heraion on the island of Samos
The city of Pythagoreio was built after the ancient philosopher Pythagoras and, together with the sacred sanctuary of Heraion, is one of the best sights on Somos. Pythagoreio is a popular holiday resort and offers a lot of tourist attractions such as Roman Baths, Aqueduct, Fortress and the Tunnel of Efpalinos.
Heraion is a sacred sanctuary where Hera was worshipped. The architectural buildings of Heraion are among the best examples of its era.
Evvia
The narrow and elongated island of Evvia is separated from the Greek mainland by the Euripus Strait. In prehistoric times there were two city-states on the island, Chalcis, today's Halkida, and Eretria. The remains of Eretria can be found near the modern city of the same name. Over the centuries, the island has been inhabited by Sicilians, Macedonians, Venetians and Turks, who have left their cultural mark.
