Boredom

Boredom is a state of mind in which the person concerned feels dissatisfaction and disinterest. In this state, there are few things that can arouse curiosity or interest and bring pleasure.

A person has dopamine receptors that determine the exact amount of stimulation required. In some people there are fewer D2 receptors in the nerve cells, which means that the stimulation must be high in order to arouse interest. A lack of dopamine receptors is genetically predisposed. These people need more energy to produce the necessary amount of dopamine.

Boredom is divided into two categories, situational boredom and chronic boredom. Situational boredom arises during certain activities or a lack of activities and can be triggered by a book, a film or a lecture at school, for example. Chronic boredom is almost always felt, regardless of the situation or activity. People who suffer from chronic boredom can even be bored by those closest to them, such as their partner or their own children.
