People are afraid of all kinds of things. While fear in itself is a natural survival instinct and therefore necessary, different types of fear can prevent us from leading a happy life. Fear of heights or fear of crowds stem from our natural instinct for self-preservation. These rational fears protect us from life-threatening situations and are based on reality. If you don't listen to your fear in such a case, it can have bad consequences.
However, there are also irrational fears in which people develop fears or phobias of situations or things that cannot cause them any actual harm. Phobias are caused by external factors and usually have a triggering moment in the past. Certain events can imprint someone with a deep-seated fear of certain things or situations. In the case of traumatic experiences, it is important to overcome one's fear and not allow it to build up and worsen over a long period of time.
Children who receive a lot of criticism and punishment and little praise are usually less self-confident as adults and live in constant fear of rejection and failure. The more self-doubt they have, the more their self-esteem suffers. Fear of making mistakes can prevent them from making decisions that determine their own lives. Fear holds them back and they avoid taking risks; they give up before they have achieved a goal for fear of not making it.
Subconscious fears, which can even drive people to self-destruction, also stem from early childhood and adolescence. The subconscious prevents people from achieving success because there is a gnawing fear within them that they do not deserve success.
The basis for overcoming fear is building self-confidence and willpower. You can learn to control your reactions; this self-control helps to overcome the actual fear. Overcoming fear is important because it gives people the ability to live their lives the way they want to. This increases self-confidence and fear can no longer hold people back.
