Women have to be more careful than men when it comes to alcohol, because in general they cannot tolerate as much as their male counterparts. What looks like sexual discrimination is purely genetic.

 

Women are generally smaller and therefore have a smaller blood volume, i.e. the concentration of alcohol in the blood is higher.

Women also produce less of the enzyme that is responsible for breaking down alcohol in the body. The enzyme is found in the stomach and breaks down the alcohol before it enters the bloodstream.

Women have a higher proportion of body fat that does not absorb alcohol. Practically applied, this means that women have 75% more alcohol in their blood than men for every alcoholic drink.
