Worry is unhealthy for us. Too much worry can cause us to lose our appetite for life, suffer from mental disorders and cause serious damage to our physical health.

How do worries arise?

Worry arises when negative thoughts are caught in a vicious circle and then fuelled by strong feelings. They often start with a single negative thought that develops into all kinds of bad scenarios in the mind.

Once you're caught in the vicious circle of worry, it's hard to break out. One of the reasons you can't stop worrying is that you try to suppress the worries and then get frustrated because they keep coming back. So you can't stop worrying about the worries coming back. The more you try to suppress the worries, the more worries you will end up creating.

How do you get rid of worries?

Worries should not be suppressed, as this is like treating only the symptoms of an illness and not the cause. Worries arise from the mind, so it is important to calm the mind and thoughts. It is not easy at the beginning to calm a head full of worries, because the brain never stops thinking. That's why you have to manage to steer your thoughts in a peaceful and positive direction.

Firstly, you should not try not to worry, as this will strengthen the emotions that negatively influence your thoughts. Instead, you should distance yourself from the worries and look at them as an outsider without feelings. Let the thoughts continue without blocking yourself from the worries. If you allow your brain to think the worries through, but without being emotionally involved, it will calm down on its own.
