Where do burnt-out energy-saving lamps belong?

Energy-saving lamp

We tend to throw burnt-out light bulbs, energy-saving lamps or fluorescent tubes in the household waste because we do not know where they actually belong. Energy-saving lamps contain mercury and must therefore not be thrown into household waste.

They are considered hazardous waste and must therefore not be placed in the yellow bin. They must be taken to the respective recycling centre for correct disposal. The collection points pass on hazardous waste such as energy-saving lamps and fluorescent tubes so that the materials used can be separated and recycled.

In some areas, fines are imposed if energy-saving light bulbs are disposed of with the residual waste.
