When buying a Christmas tree, choose the freshest tree, if possible one that was cut on the same day. In no case should the tree lose many needles already when you buy it.

Cut about 3 cm off the trunk and place the tree in a bucket of water. If the tree is not put up immediately, it should be placed in a cool and shady place.

As soon as the tree is placed in its final position, cut off one to two centimetres of the trunk.

Place the tree in a container that holds at least 5 litres of water. When placing the tree, the container should be filled with fresh water.

Water the fir tree every day, the container should always be full.

6. never allow the water level to be below the interface of the tree trunk. If the cut is exposed to the air, a sealing layer forms that prevents further water absorption by the tree. If the water level does lie below the cut, you have to saw off another centimetre and thus create a new cut.

The Christmas tree should not be placed too close to radiators, open fireplaces or ovens, as the radiating heat draws moisture from the tree.

8. spray the needles of the fir tree with antiperspirant spray before trimming the trunk, which slows down the loss of water through the fir needles.
