In summer, unfortunately, ants always find a way into our homes. How do you get rid of a plague of ants when there are whole streets of ants in the kitchen?
Firstly, you can pick up the ants with a damp cloth and wash it out in the sink. To avoid attracting new ants in the future, you can do the following:
-
Take out bin liners regularly and disinfect the inside of the bin with insect repellent. The odour of food scraps in the bin attracts ants.
-
Rub the kitchen worktop with vinegar - the smell of vinegar repels the ants (unfortunately often for us too, but which is the lesser evil??).
-
If you suspect that ants have taken up residence in cupboards, you can sprinkle ground red pepper in the relevant corners. The pepper will get into any small holes and drive the ants out.
-
The floor must be swept or vacuumed regularly, as small food crumbs can get stuck there.
-
Finally, you can damp mop the floor with diluted bleach to remove even the smallest crumbs and disinfect the floor.
