How to clean a shower that has developed a blue tint

How do you clean a shower whose brilliant white has taken on a blue tinge? And what causes this blue cast in the first place? When a bright white shower takes on a blue cast, it is due to copper deposits from the copper pipes in the water supply. The water transports corroded copper out of the shower head. With the steam, the copper settles on the tiles and shower walls and discolours.

How do you clean a shower or washbasin with a blue tint?

The bluish discolouration is relatively easy to remove. It is best to use a toilet cleaner with sodium bisulphate. Unfortunately, the discolouration will always occur as long as there are copper pipes in the house.

Cleaning the discoloured areas

Apply the toilet cleaner with a sponge. Leave to act for a few minutes, but no longer than a quarter of an hour.

Scrub off the blue discolouration with a scrub brush.

Rinse the WC cleaner thoroughly with clear water.

If necessary, repeat the procedure.

Wipe the shower dry with a towel.

Tip: Instead of toilet cleaner, you can also use undiluted vinegar essence. The vinegar must be left to act longer and scrubbed off more thoroughly.

It is best to have the copper pipes replaced, because too much copper in the drinking water can lead to poisoning. Signs of poisoning from copper in drinking water are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, stomach problems and dizziness.
