Theoretically, a toilet bowl lasts forever, which means there is no time period when you should replace a toilet bowl as long as it is whole and functional. Only the toilet seat needs to be replaced as soon as it becomes worn and unsightly. However, the cistern usually only lasts for a limited time.
The porcelain of the toilet bowl is made for a lifetime of use. While the basic properties of the toilet bowl remain the same, depending on the model chosen, the toilet may look old-fashioned after a while. If you are buying a new toilet, it is better to choose a timeless design rather than a highly modern one.

The outside of the toilet usually lasts for many decades. The inside, however, should be treated gently, because as soon as hairline cracks appear in the bowl due to tools or rough handling, they can no longer be repaired. If the toilet seat is replaced, it should be removed with care to avoid accidental knocks against the porcelain. A leaking toilet bowl can cause severe water damage to the floor.

The inside of the toilet should be cleaned regularly with disinfectants, but not with strong, acidic agents that attack the enamel.

While the toilet bowl can last a lifetime, the flushing system inevitably breaks down after a while. The more technology the flushing system has, the more it can also become in need of repair. If you want to use a toilet for a long time, the cistern should be kept as simple as possible.
