Decluttering the wardrobe

Tidying up and decluttering in the problem areas of the home

Decluttering the wardrobe

Over time, a lot of stuff accumulates in every home. Drawers, kitchen cupboards, wardrobes and dressing rooms are the main problem areas. It's often hard to know where and how to start decluttering.

Tidying up and clearing out

Drawers: Larger drawers are best divided by containers or partitions. This allows you to separate useful items from clutter and keep things organised. Simple cutlery boxes, boxes or plastic crates are suitable for dividing things up. When sorting the contents of the drawers, you are sure to find some things that can be thrown away.

You can simply store paper and documents in loose-leaf binders or cardboard folders.

Kitchen cabinets: The worktop is the most important place in the kitchen and must be as free of objects as possible. Items that are used frequently can be hung on the wall so that they are within reach but do not take up valuable worktop space.

You can significantly increase the storage space inside the kitchen cupboards, especially under the sink, by installing shelves. Here too, it is advisable to use different boxes to keep things organised.

For the larder, you can take staple foods such as flour and sugar out of their packaging and put them in containers of the same size that are easy to store and take up less space.

Wardrobe: A lot of space is wasted by using different types of hangers. It doesn't matter what shape they are as long as they all look the same.

To make it easier to find items of clothing, they should be divided into groups that belong together, such as tops, trousers, skirts, suits, etc.

You can save a lot of space with shoe bags and tie and scarf hangers.

You should store the clothes for the other season in boxes in a different place. You should also have a bag ready in which you put items of clothing to give away as soon as you decide that you no longer want to wear them, so that they don't get mixed up with the other clothes again.

You should get rid of clothes that you haven't worn for a whole year, as you obviously don't need them and they are just taking up unnecessary space.
