Discovering a spider in your car while driving can be a very unpleasant experience. Spiders find places to nest everywhere, and the interior of the car offers many cracks and nooks as hiding places for spiders. Rubbish and crumbs that often accumulate in the car complete a perfect habitat for spiders.


Insecticides alone are not enough to keep the car spider-free and can also be dangerous in the closed interior. The car should be regularly and thoroughly cleared of rubbish and cleaned. Beverage containers or crumpled paper in which the spiders can hide should be removed, as should food scraps and crumbs that attract insects on which the spiders feed. Vacuum the seat upholstery, floor, floor mats, side containers and boot thoroughly.

When the car is parked, even in a garage, it is best to always keep all windows and doors as well as the sunroof closed.

Check rubber seals around windows and doors frequently for cracks through which spiders can enter the car. Rub all door and window seals with peppermint oil. Peppermint oil is non-toxic, but keeps insects and spiders out of the car. Drizzle the peppermint oil onto a cotton bud and rub it into the cracks in the ventilation.

The outside of the car around the doors can be sprayed with insect repellent. However, do not use insect spray inside the car.

If possible, do not park the car under trees or near bushes. Cover the car with a suitable car tarpaulin if it is not going to be used for a longer period of time.
