Washing powder and fabric softener, the two detergents for the laundry, are placed in the detergent drawer. Although they are detergents, mould forms in the detergent drawer after a few washes, and lye and limescale build up.
To keep the detergent compartment clean, leave it open after each completed wash cycle until it is dry, as mould is caused by moisture that cannot escape.
If mould stains still form, they can be washed off with an active cleaner.
To combat musty-smelling laundry after washing, it helps to run the washing machine through with a washing machine cleaner at 60 degrees, as this removes limescale and lye residues.
