To prevent your new cat from soiling your home straight away, you need to get them used to using their litter tray regularly. Most cats get used to going to their own litter tray very quickly, as cats are very clean animals by nature. Occasionally, however, there are problem cats that take a little longer to adjust.

 

Place several litter trays in different places in the home to give the cat plenty of opportunity.

Use different types of toilets with different contents (cat litter, sand, soil, etc.) so that the cat finds the right one for it.

When the cat starts to go to the toilet, it will probably have chosen a favourite toilet. You should leave this in the same place for a few weeks so that the cat can find it. You can put away the unused or rarely used litter trays.

After a few weeks, you can start moving the litter tray half a metre every day towards the place where you want it to be for good.

Don't forget to praise the cat when it uses the toilet.
