A permanent coffee filter is an economical and environmentally friendly way to make coffee. The filters are made of plastic or metal and can be reused as often as you like. This means you don't have to keep buying new filter bags. To ensure that the permanent coffee filter always makes good coffee, it must be cleaned thoroughly after each use.
There is a permanent coffee filter in the right size for every coffee machine. You can buy a coffee machine together with a metal filter or buy a single filter to match the machine.
The permanent coffee filter is used in the same way as a conventional paper filter. It is inserted into the filter insert and the usual amount of coffee powder is poured in. When the coffee is ready, the filter only needs to be rinsed briefly under clean water. Occasionally rinse the filter with hot water and vinegar so that the caffeine residue can be washed away and no stains remain. As with coffee cups, a brownish colour may remain after repeated use, but this can easily be wiped off with a dishcloth. The filter is placed in the solution of water and vinegar and left there for a few minutes to soak. The vinegar also prevents tiny traces of limescale in the water from clogging the fine pores of the filter. After soaking, rinse briefly with clear, hot water and leave to dry.
