Here is an easy way to unclog a clogged toilet if you don't have a tamper (plunger) handy. It almost always works.

This technique can also be used when the toilet is in danger of clogging, i.e. when not everything is flushed down as it should.

However, if the toilet is constantly clogged, a plumber should take a look. How to unclog a blocked toilet without a plunger?

First check if there is enough space in the toilet bowl to drain it again. If the water is already up to the rim, it won't work, of course. If there is still enough space for water in the bowl, go to the second step.

Pull the toilet flush while gently but forcefully kicking the toilet bowl with your foot. This works a little better with shoes, as long as they don't have steel toecaps. :), but barefoot is also doable.

Depending on the type of toilet flush you have, keep the handle pressed or release it so that the water continues to flow into the bowl. You must judge for yourself when to stop the water supply.

Keep tapping the bowl with your foot until everything clears. Just when you think the method is not working, about 10 seconds after the rinse is finished, the bowl suddenly empties.

If it doesn't work immediately, try again while there is still room for water in the bowl. If not, wait a while until there is enough space again or...get a masher.

Use this technique as soon as you think the toilet might clog. It works best the very first time you flush, when you feel it might not all go down.
