Coffee grounds are actually too good to throw away, as they have good uses for cleaning around the house. Here are some alternative uses for your used coffee grounds.
If you reuse your coffee grounds wisely, you do good for the environment and save money and effort. For example, you can mix coffee grounds in equal parts with baking soda and use this mixture to scrape out heavily soiled pots and pans. The relatively coarse coffee powder is also good for cleaning the oven.
After barbecuing or using the fireplace, you can throw damp coffee grounds on the ashes. This will prevent fine dust from the ashes from being stirred up during cleaning.
Let your used coffee grounds dry and fill a small bowl with them. You can place this bowl anywhere you want to absorb and neutralise unpleasant odours, for example in the fridge, cupboards or bathroom. Place a bowl of dry coffee grounds in the kitchen when cooking to reduce food odours.
Coffee grounds also find good use in the garden or for houseplants. Coffee grounds are a wonderful acidic fertiliser and work particularly well with azaleas, rhododendrons and roses. Mix the coffee grounds with fresh potting soil before sowing or repotting plants. This will increase the growth of your plants. Your fertiliser will be particularly rich if you mix coffee grounds with other organic waste such as orange peel, fruit and vegetables, because coffee releases nitrogen.
When you Coffee capsules you can remove the coffee grounds from the capsules and use the capsules separately for crafting.
