Recipe for an insect repellent based on herbs.
Firstly, it is encouraging to know that most herbs have a repellent effect against insects, including camomile, lavender and mugwort. To make a particularly effective insect repellent, essential oils are used as they are highly concentrated.
This insect repellent lotion is based on eucalyptus and lemon oil. You can add other herbal oils as desired. For example, lavender can be added to refine the strong eucalyptus odour.
Ingredients:
60ml vodka
60ml almond oil
¼ teaspoon citronella
¼ teaspoon eucalyptus
1/8 teaspoon of each other herb oil
Preparation:
Mix all the ingredients together and shake thoroughly.
Pour into a jam jar with a tight seal and store in a cool, dark place.
To use, dip a cotton pad into the lotion and spread over the skin.
Even if the herbal oils are not cheap, a bottle of each will get you through the summer.
