Too much alcohol is harmful to your mind and health. To live a healthy and happy life, try to keep your alcohol consumption to a minimum. Simply drinking less alcohol is often easier said than done, so here are a few tips for you on what habits you can change so that you do not consume more than the healthy amount of alcohol.
Instead of serving wine with the main meal, choose another non-alcoholic drink. Of course, water would be healthiest as it has no calories, but if you need more flavour than motivation to get away from wine, juice or something else sweet is fine. A bottle or carafe of wine left on the table at dinner will be emptied all too quickly without you realising it. To start with, pour yourself a glass of wine with your meal and put the bottle in the cupboard.
Seltzer water tastes good with wine, whisky, vodka, cognac and almost all other alcoholic drinks except beer. Mix your alcohol with seltzer, just a little at first, then more and more to get used to the flavour.
Drink a full glass of mineral water before and after every alcoholic drink. This is guaranteed to automatically reduce the amount of alcohol consumed.
Set yourself a goal that you want to achieve, e.g. a certain amount of alcohol per day must not be exceeded. Write this rule down and pin it next to the cupboard where the alcohol is kept.
Keep an alcohol diary in which you record exactly how much and what kind of alcohol you drink and when, but be honest with yourself.
Make a list of reasons why you want or need to drink less alcohol. These are probably reasons such as losing weight, fewer headaches, blood sugar levels or simply keeping a clear head at work and in everyday life. Every time you get weak, read through this list.
Make a note of how much money you spend on alcohol each month and set yourself a budget of no more than half that amount. You can put the money you save aside and save it for a special (non-alcoholic) treat.
Tell your friends that you are planning to reduce your alcohol consumption. This will hopefully stop them from tempting you.
