Wellness for the feet

Wellness for feetThe feet are probably one of the most neglected parts of the body, because they do not have a very good reputation, they can smell bad, are generally not perceived as a particularly aesthetically pleasing part of the body, and quickly develop annoying problems such as blisters, ingrown toenails or even corns.

In summer they swell, in winter they are one of the first parts of the body to freeze. Most of the time we hide our feet in shoes and socks anyway, in short, feet don't have it easy with their owners.

They are expected to do a lot and are often offered very little. Even in daily hygiene and body care, the feet are often neglected. If every other part of the body is rubbed with creams or care lotions, this treatment ends for most people when they reach the ankles. Apply cream to your feet too, they will thank you for it!

Yet our feet are heavy labourers and our best allies on our journey through life. With just 26 bones and 31 joints, they carry us around 10,000 steps every day, and even around the world several times in our entire lives - if we always walked straight ahead.

They deserve to be treated well, but often only receive this when problems arise.

Shoes and Co.

Today, people's feet are not challenged very much; smooth, even floors make the training of all muscles obsolete and is limited to just a few muscles. The shoe fashion that is forced upon the foot imposes soles that no longer allow it to perform its natural movement of rolling the foot; even with less extreme shoe models, freedom of movement is often restricted.

The soles and the footbed are therefore important factors that determine whether the foot feels comfortable in them or not.

The footbed should not have too many curves, unless you stand a lot throughout the day. In general, it is advisable to let the foot distribute the body weight itself so that the muscles work and are not pressed into a fixed mould that is supposed to take over all functions.

If you have back pain, you should also take a close look at your footwear, because where giant heels and upturned toes are prevalent, effects can occur elsewhere that you hadn't expected.

So the motto is to let your feet carry and distribute your body weight themselves whenever possible.

Flooring at home

Even if tiles are very popular today because they are easy to clean and go well with many home furnishings, they are not the ideal floor covering for our feet. They are hard and usually make us wear slippers to compensate for this.

Carpets are far more comfortable for the foot, the longer the fibres, the better, because then the foot can spread out as it pleases. Carpets are an indulgence that might even tempt us to leave our footwear off altogether - every foot's dream!
